The most powerful gaming laptop currently available is $100 lighter for Black Friday, and I can’t recommend it enough.

ASUS ROG Ally X is the pinnacle of the gaming laptop ecosystem, especially the Z1 Extreme series. The AMD Z1 Extreme is a game changer for portable high-end gaming, delivering far more power than a Steam Deck while also offering the full range of accessible Windows universal capabilities. Easily launch Battle.net, the Riot client, the Epic Games Store, GOG, the HoYoverse launcher, or PC Game Pass without going through additional hoops, in addition to Steam itself, of course. The downside may be Windows itself, which is generally not designed to work in such conditions, although improvements are coming gradually and quickly.

One of the downsides of the Z1 Extreme is its battery life. While it’s monstrously efficient, at the end of the day it’s still a laptop-style chip and drains battery quickly, especially when running 3D games. The ASUS ROG Ally X was created to compensate for some of these issues by adding a stronger battery that gives up to an hour of extra charge. I usually keep my devices connected when I play, even when I’m on the go, but I admit it gets a little confusing if you have to carry a bunch of extra battery packs on top.

If battery life isn’t an issue for you, you might want to consider the regular ASUS ROG Ally or Lenovo Legion Go instead. You can expect around 1.5-2 hours of 3D gaming with the ASUS ROG Ally X and around 1 hour with the regular ASUS ROG Ally and Lenovo Legion Go. However, you can get some pretty significant savings if you don’t mind going down from 1TB of storage to 512GB and losing some battery life in the process.

Buy the ASUS ROG Ally X if you want the best of the best right now, and remember you can always trade it in later.

Whatever you decide to buy, you won’t be disappointed. I currently recommend the ASUS ROG Ally and Ally X overall. ASUS’ software and drivers are a bit more mature than the competition. It also has a VRR display, which makes a big difference in games where these chips can experience performance hiccups from time to time.
