D Gukesh vs Ding Liren World Chess Championship 2024. Live Updates: Indian Grandmaster D Gukesh and defending champion Ding Liren played out a draw in the fourth round to remain level on points in the battle for the World Chess Championship on Friday. The two players signed peace after 42 moves and are tied on 2 points after four games of the 14-round duel.

Gukesh, 18, who played black on Friday, is the youngest contender for the crown in history and won the third game on Wednesday.

“Towards the end I had chances to press better, but with black that’s all you can expect,” Gukes said after the game.

“I’m just trying to make good moves,” he added when asked about the prospect of becoming the youngest world champion.

Liren, 32, won the first game before they drew the second game.

“I tried to act carefully,” Liren said.

“I had a day of rest to recover from the heavy defeat. I’m in a very good mood. Everything worked out well, not too bad,” he added.

Viswanathan Anand is so far the only Indian to win the title, having won it five times in his career.
