Indonesia seeks OECD and BRICS membership for national goals – minister

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia is in the process of joining the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the BRICS economic cooperation group to achieve national goals and interests.

Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono made the announcement on Saturday on the sidelines of the Conference on Indonesian Foreign Policy (CIFP) in Jakarta.

“Multilateral groups such as BRICS, OECD, IPEF (Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity) as well as TPP (Trans-Pacific Partnership) can be platforms that will help us realize the aspirations of the nation,” he said.

Sugiono said these organizations provide Indonesia with a great opportunity to support the well-being of its people and overcome major challenges such as fighting poverty and achieving energy and food self-sufficiency.

“We must therefore cooperate and cooperate with all countries and groups,” he added.

As Minister of Foreign Affairs, he said he was helping the government by implementing the vision and orders of President Prabowo Subianto, including his foreign policy.

“None of us work independently; we act as one team under the leadership of President Prabowo,” he stressed.

Deputy Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Nasir said on November 26 that Indonesia’s decision to join the OECD and BRICS was an attempt to realize global peace and stability.

He said global stability would help countries improve the lives of their citizens.

Nasir stressed that such stability is critical for Indonesia, which is committed to implementing a program of free nutritious meals for 82 million people and reallocating resources to increase the economic value of its exports.
