The MacBook Air is Apple’s most popular Mac, and it’s not hard to see why. It’s compact, functional, and fairly well priced – for an Apple product.

The tech giant’s laptops sell at a huge premium, but a new deal with Amazon makes that easy to mitigate. The retailer is offering the MacBook Air M3 (latest version) for $844—23% off the suggested retail price of $1,099.

Although we haven’t published an official review, I am writing this post about the laptop and I can tell you that it is a fantastic machine. We gave the M2 version 5 stars. in our MacBook Air M2 reviewand while the storage situation still hasn’t improved, it is more powerful and has double the RAM at 16GB.

The biggest complaint about the MacBook Air M3, released earlier this year, was Apple’s stubborn refusal to change the base specification of 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. Luckily, the former is no longer an issue: all MacBook Air M3 models now come standard with 16GB of RAM.

Unfortunately, 256GB isn’t a lot of space for most people, but putting documents on iCloud Drive is easy enough to free up some space.

Otherwise, this is truly a perfect laptop. While the M2 version could only output to one external monitor, this M3 chip is capable of connecting to two displays when closed, making it an ideal home office laptop.

And when you take it on the go, it weighs just 1.24 kg (2.73 lbs).

Price history: We saw this model cost $899 earlier this year, but that’s a new low. Best Buy is close, but Amazon is still the cheapest.

It’s powerful but also extremely efficient, with a battery that consumes a lot of power to keep it going throughout the workday. It is more powerful than the M2 version and can support two external displays when closed.

Buy if: You need a laptop for almost everything: these days, the MacBook Pro is no longer the sole preserve of even creative tasks.

Do not buy if: You’ll need more than the base storage – 256GB isn’t a lot, but luckily there’s a MacBook Pro available that starts at 512GB. The M4 version will probably arrive in a few months.
